and what can I say, except "eh". They aren't horrible, but they aren't impressive, either. The hemoglobin, which once hovered sluggishly around 7, is now just above 9 (yes!). The other numbers; however, aren't quite as nice. Basically, everything else is painfully low, with shrunken and odd-shaped RBCs cruising through my veins, and not nearly enough reticulocytes. This could be an issue, but to be seen. Instead of a free month before more tests, I'm back in in 2 more weeks for a repeat round and we'll go from there. In the meantime, I have decided that, in addition to the massive doses of daily iron, I'll utilize my culinary creativity for my own cause, and I will be uber-conscious of dietary iron intake, with the exception of my daily dessert (although if it is high in iron, this will be a bonus!). I am trying to get the biggest bang for my iron buck over the next 2 weeks, so we'll see how it goes. The blood will tell the story. Until then, I'll post iron rich recipes and lunch/snack ideas over on the recipes page, so do check back to see what's there.
Stay strong - get your RDA - remember we "mature" gals need at least 18mg/day! ;-)
